Wellington, Ohio is located 50 minutes southwest of Cleveland in southern Lorain County. Originally settled in 1818 by five men from Connecticut and New York, Wellington has a rich history filled with action and excitement. Today, Wellington maintains its rural charm. Surrounded by farmland and inhabited by approximately 4,800 residents, this is a village where downhome manners still matter, kids still play freely outside, and yes, everyone knows your name. Businesses, industries, and organizations have come and gone over the years, but there is still plenty here and the groundwork for future growth is being planned and constructed.
The Spirt of Wellington website is meant to give a clear understanding of all things Wellington. Business, industry, schools, village government, area history, development plans, and much more are all fair game here. To be clear, this website is not affiliated with the Village of Wellington, whose official website is located here.

The Village of Wellington, Ohio is located at the intersection of State Routes 58 and 18 in Southern Lorain County, which gives quick and easy access to the Ohio Turnpike, US 224, US 20, I-480, and I-71. Wellington is also served by two railroads that make shipping nationally and internationally a breeze. Wellington sits on CSX Transportation's mainline between New York and Chicago, and Wheeling & Lake Erie's mainline between Pittsburgh and Toledo.
Wellington has a traditional downtown area with dozens of storefronts, a library, town hall, churches, a park, and more. As with many downtowns, Wellington experienced a decline in downtown businesses. However, Main Street Wellington, the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and the Wellington Merchants Association have been hard at work with new ideas, grant writing, and a genuine desire to build the area back up. These groups have been successful in bringing new stores downtown and today, the number of empty storefronts is in decline.
The Village of Wellington has completed a long-term growth plan to both promote and control growth in the village. You can read more about these exciting plans on the Village Info page.
