Welcome to "The Spirit of Wellington"!

Wellington, Ohio is located 50 minutes southwest of Cleveland in beautiful southern Lorain County. Settled in 1818 by five men from Connecticut and New York, Wellington's rich history is full of action and excitement. Today, Wellington is a growing village with approximately 4,800 residents. Businesses, industries, and organizations have come and gone over the years, but there is still plenty here and the groundwork for future growth is being planned and constructed.

The Spirit of Wellington website is meant to give a clear understanding of Wellington's business, industry, and government sectors, as well as Wellington's history, and the plans for the future. This website is not affiliated with the Village of Wellington. For the official village website, please click here.

The Village of Wellington, Ohio is located at the intersection of State Routes 58 and 18 in southern Lorain County. Wellington is also served by CSX Transportation's "Greenwich Sub" which is part of CSX's mainline from Chicago to Buffalo, New York and the Northeastern states. The Wheeling & Lake Erie Railway Company also crosses the southern end of town with the possibility of serving further developments there. Wellington has a typical downtown with several empty storefronts; but, Main Street Wellington, a hardworking group armed with new ideas, grant-writing skills, and a genuine desire to turn things around is working to revitalize the area.

Wellington's main growth area for the next several years looks to be the northern and southern edges of town. In early 2005, a new Dollar General store was built on the southern edge of the village, joining Hemlock Cottage, Wellington Implement, Wellington Indoor Comfort, Taco Bell, Domino's, and a few other businesses in that region of town in attracting shoppers to the area. Directly to the west of all of this commercial development, several hundred new homes have been built in a new neighborhood between Jones Road and Kent Street, where Walden Apartments were built. On the northern end of the village, State Route 58 has been widened to three lanes to lessen traffic problems and to prepare for the construction of a new retail and residential development on the West side of the road, across from Village Market and Drug Mart.

You can read more about Wellington's development plans on the Village Info page.
